What is Matrescence — and Why We Need Loving Support


Matrescence is the profound and continuous transformation a woman experiences as she becomes—and evolves through—motherhood. It's a physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual transformation that unfolds over time. Much like adolescence, it’s a powerful identity shift that can bring both joy and disorientation, expansion and loss. Yet, unlike adolescence, matrescence is rarely acknowledged or supported by society, leaving many women feeling unseen, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves. Understanding matrescence helps us make sense of the many changes we go through and reminds us that we are not broken — we are becoming. With the right support, reflection, and community, this season can be a deeply empowering time of growth, healing, and self-discovery.
